Although we have no obligation to stay alive, On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive, (Break out) I won't be left here, Behind closed doors.
Bonfires burn like beacons, Guiding the lost and weakened. Flames dance on crashing waves, Guiding ships who've gone astray
Time out, let's stop and think this through, We've all got better things to do, Than talk in circles, run in place, Answers inches from our face.
~Rise Against
Opening her eyes, a dark brown tabby found herself surrounded by cats. Taking in features, she realized that none of the faces were from NightClan. Yowls of defiance echoed around her, engulfing her. Looking up, she saw a figure outlined against the sun, dark eyes gleaming and looking down to her. Suddenly, she remembered him. His white body, his brown head. Eagle? she wanted to say, but the words never left her muzzle. The tom lifted his muzzle to the air, yowling for silence. The shrieks died down to nothing. The silence hung in the air like a ghost. "Hawk!" Eagle's meow was so low it sounded like a growl. "You have killed one of our best cats. And I now suspect that you also were behind the killings of our beloved Red and Swan. I have no idea how you could have committed such a felony, but it will not go unpunished." Hawk's pale eyes stretched wide with dismay. "Wait! You don't understand! Please, no!" Her protests were drowned out by the yowls that rose up around her once more. Eagle's tail lifted and the crowd fell silent once more. "We will begin the counting. Part the path!" The crowd that had circled her parted to reveal a path. The Path of Exile. Eagle lifted his head higher than before. "One!" Hawk's paws moved instinctively and she ran out the exit. The forest floor was soaking wet, and mud splashed up onto her pelt and face. "Two!" Hawk could hear the call from back at base. All of the cats were chanting, awaiting ten for the chase. "Three!" They were counting too fast! They never counted so swiftly. Hawk ran harder. "Four! Five! Six! Seven! Eight! " Numbers were racing by. Stop! She couldn't help but plea the thought. Why? Why were they counting so fast? "Nine!" Nine already! Dread pulsed through the she-cat. She would never make it! Her paws began to grow heavy, slowing her down. No! Don't slow down, speed up! Speed up! "Ten!" The world almost seemed to go negative with dismay. Yowls sounded behind Hawk. How had they caught up so fast? They had to have left early. Hawk looked over her shoulder and saw a whole wave of cats only several fox lengths behind her. They were gaining fast. Hawk's chest felt like exploding with lack of air. Shrieking with dismay, the she-cat called out, "No! You counted too fast! You left too early! No!" She saw cats come up on her sides, their eyes filled to the brim with lust. Hawk yowled as a set of paws landed on her, knocking her down. Looking up, she saw Eagle, fangs bared and ready to bite. His head bent and Hawk cried out as pain raced through her and blood poured from her neck.
Hawkstar woke with a scream. She was in her nest, in the leader's den. She was back. It was only a dream. The tabby's paws stung, as though she had really been running. She was exhausted, and panting. Her bedding was scattered, a sign that she had been writhing and fidgeting in her sleep. Glancing around, Hawkstar decided that it would be best to get some fresh air. She hoped she hadn't woke any of her Warriors. They would be mad if they got woken in the middle of the night. Slipping out of her nest, Hawkstar entered out into the cool breeze. The moon loomed overhead. The night was undisturbed. Hawkstar sat off in the shadows and stared up at the moon. Why couldn't she be that calm?[/color]

Soft paws ran through the forest, chasing an intruder. The StreamClan cat ran back into his territory and kept running. "You will not intrude on NightClan territory without payback. The tortoiseshell ran after him, ready for battle. She ran, heart pounding and chest screaming for air. She wouldn't give up this fight. She didn't care that she was trespassing. The StreamClaner had trespassed first and wouldn't get away without a battle scar. She ran faster. She almost had him. She was just about to scratch the StreamClan cat when... A sudden scream woke Whitefire from her dream. She knew that it was her leader, since they were the only NightClan cats. She got up, stretched, and walked out of the warriors den. She looked up and saw the moon shining brightly. She then spotted Hawkstar. She was sitting in the shadows, looking like she was thinking deeply about something. Whitefire could have walked quietly over to the she-cat, but she didn't want to scare her. So she walked quite loudly over to her leader. "What's wrong Hawkstar? Did you have a bad dream?" Usually the tortoiseshell was an angry cat, but she was trying to comfort her leader, not baby her.

Heavy paw steps made Hawkstar look up in alarm. "Whitefire... Did I wake you? I'm terribly sorry." Hawkstar gave her chest a few nervous licks. What should she tell the warrior? Glancing up at the sky, the NightClan leader took in a deep breath. "Yes, just a nightmare. Thank goodness it was only a dream. It felt so real..." Hawkstar's mew trailed away. The dream had been too real for comfort. "I just came out here to envy the night's calmness. It's so lucky." Hawkstar laughed softly. She knew she must sound completely insane. She looked to the she-cat. "Sorry. I must sound completely insane. I really need to sleep. I just don't know if I'll be able to now..."

"Yes, you did wake me, but it's fine. You don't sound insane. I know how you feel...Well why was the dream so scary. Talking about something I feel scared about with a friend always makes me feel better." Whitefire smiled at her leader. She thought and hoped that they were friends. Hawkstar was a good leader and was nice when she wanted to be. While she waited for the she-cats response, she looked into the night sky.Hm, the night does look calm and soothing, she thought.

Hawkstar nodded. "It was about my old home. You remember how I came to the Clans, right? All muddy and defensive. I had been as scared then as I was now. I was being chased..." Hawkstar didn't make eye contact with Whitefire, the fear of tears too great. She wouldn't cry in front of her warrior. She didn't want to cry in front of anyone...

OOC:Yeah it is. And sorry I haven't posted I've been busy.
IC:"Yes I remember that. We were all very curious about you and you wouldn't tell us anything. Who were you being chased by? Was it your old group of rogues?"Whitefire remember that day very well. The she-cat had asked for a position as a warrior and after their leader thought about it(I'm going to say the leader was a she) she said that she could but she would have to obey the warrior code like all of the other cats.

Hawkstar instinctively got fussy. "You know," she snapped, "just because we only had one-part names, that didn't make us rogues! We were just as organized as the Clans are today. We just had more violent punishments." Hawkstar glared at Whitefire, then realized how rude she had just been. Softening her gaze, Hawkstar gave an apologetic smile. "Sorry; I'm only a little fussy about them... But, yes, it was them that were chasing me. But, that's just what happened when you couldn't stick to the law." The dark tabby recalled how she had begged for a place in NightClan. I sure was desperate... She remembered how she was forced to prove her loyalty before she could be considered a NightClan cat. She had spent many of her days cleaning out the elders' den, listening to their stories of the past, and being monitored by a Warrior all the time. Sure, she could go out and hunt, but only if she was being watched. No one had trusted her at first. But look where I am today...

"No, it's fine. I understand. I offended you and I'm the one who should be sorry. So why were they chasing you?" She had always wondered what had happened to her leader. She then realized that she was being quite nosy. "Sorry I'm being nosy. I just want to help and understand what happened to you." She smiled at the she-cat, waiting patiently for an answer.

Hawkstar nodded at the warrior's apology. The question came, and the tabby leader had been expecting it. She shook her head. "No, it's fine. Back in my old home, when you did something bad, you were driven out into the forest. They counted very loudly to ten, then they came after you. If you weren't out of the territory in time, you were killed." Hawkstar shifted her weight from paw to paw. She had been lucky. "I was accused for murder and I didn't have a chance to clear myself before they opened The Path of Exile. It was a miracle that I got away..." Hawkstar looked down at her paws. She hoped that the 'accused' part didn't run through Whitefire's mind as she had really killed someone. Even though that was the truth, she didn't want her warrior to know...

Whitefire wondered how someone could think that her leader had killed another cat on purpose. "Who did they think you killed? Was he or she important?" She threw the questions at Hawkstar, hoping she wouldn't mind. She hoped that her leader hadn't actually done what she had been accused of.

Hawkstar had to think fast to make up a story. "I was accused of three murders. They thought that it was me because I was around when one cat was killed and I got their blood on me by accident. Eagle, the leader, was thickheaded and he wouldn't listen..." Hawkstar told the truth about the last question. "The first two were important. They were a leader and deputy. The third was just like a warrior..."

"Oh well that stinks. I would be really mad at them for accusing me." Whitefire yawned and realized how tired she was. "Well, do you think that you could get some more sleep? Because I sure am due for more." She smiled groggily. She got up, stretched, and sat back down. "If you want to sleep out here, I'll stay with you. I always love to sleep under the stars." She gazed up at the brightly shining stars. They sure were beautiful.

Hawkstar smiled at the sleepy warrior and she yawned herself. "Sure, we can stay outside. Maybe we'll be able to sleep like the stars. That would be very nice..." Hawkstar laid down and beckoned the warrior with her tail. "Thanks for staying with me, Whitefire," she murmured softly.

"Ok. I like sleeping outside." She yawned and layed down. "No problem. I don't mind it." She closed her eyes and drifted into a dreamless sleep.
