Why?

[Nightstar]

Nightstar walked slowly out of her den and sat in the middle of the clearing. She turned her face up to the light rain and sighed, allowing her thin pelt to become soaked. The rain washed her clean, she felt her worries slipping away, at least for as long as the rain lasted. Nightstar didn't count on such luck. She sighed heavily, she had thought the rain had washed all her worries away. It could do nothing for her pessimistic nature though.

A tortoiseshell she-cat tossed and turned in her sleep. Spottedfire was dreaming of Featherstar's death, but the parts where she hadn't been there. She could see her ex-leader catching the rabbit, which had been poisoned by death berries, her eating the rabbit, and her dying. She could hear the echo of the call for Nightstalker, and Featherstar's last words. Light green eyes suddenly opened in the warriors den. She knew she wouldn't be able to go back to sleep for a while, so she decided to go outside and get some fresh air. She could hear the pitter-patter of a light rain outside the den. She padded out of the den, content to let the rain soak her pelt. She looked across the clearing, surprised to see Nightstar, who was soaking wet. She ran over to her newly appointed leader and said, "Nightstar! What are you doing? Your going to get sick if you stay out like this! We don't have a medicine cat! I wouldn't be able to handle it if you lost a life already!"

[Nightstar]

Nightstar didn't jump at Spottedfires suden appearance. She set it in her ming to expect everything, that way she wouldn't be caught off gaurd. Nightstar blinked wearily and turned her sparkling green eyes on Spottedfire. The warrior was concerned for her. Nightstar smiled at her. "I'm fine Spottedfire, you're getting wet to. Why don't we both go back to the warriors den so you don't lose your only life." Nightstar rose sloly to her paws and padded towards the warriors den. She couldn't stand to be alone in her own den at the moment.

[*Beechstar*]

Spottedfire smiled. "Ok." She was glad, but surprised, that her leader was going to sleep in the warriors den. She didn't really want to be alone, because of her dream, and maybe Nightstar being there would help. She got up and padded slowly into the warriors den.

[Nightstar]

Nightstar sighed and settled into a relatively soft patch of moss. She looked up at Spottedfire as her only warrior entered the den. "Skyclan is dying Spottedfire." She said heavily. "Nothing I can do can stop our speeding plummet to extinction. We are at the mercy of the other clans, that they have not attacked us now for our territory is nothing short of a miracle. You know as well as I do that if they decided to invade nothing we could do would stop them." She sighed in exhaustion. She felt like a failure, there was nothing she could do for Skyclan, though she tried so hard.

[*Beechstar*]

Spottedfire gasped at Nightstar's words. She was surprised that her leader would think like that. She didn't know what to say, since her voice would be shaky with fear, so she put her tail on Nightstar's back and stroked it soothingly.

Nightstar sighed again and looked at Spottedfire. She looked scared at what Nightstar had said. "I'm sorry Spottedfire." Nightstar murmured. "But you need to know the truth of it. I don't know how I can bring Skyclan out of this, I need your help." Nightstar stared blackly out of the den at the rain. The water falling from the sky had started to intensify, the prey would be hiding. But so would the other clans.

[*Beechstar*]

Spottedfire nodded. "I understand." She took a deep breath, summoning up her confidence. She looked at Nightstar. "I'll do what I can." She smiled.

[Nightstar]

Nightstar blinked and looked back towards Spottedfire, "Thanks Spottedfire, I shouldn't have to bother you with this but....." She shrugged. "There's nothing really we can do for now, I'll put my mind to work but I can't think of any way to help Skyclan." She flicked an ear in frustration. "Why did Featherstar have to leave us? We need every cat we have" She growled low in her throat and lashed her tail. Things really weren't going well, and it was her duty to set things right, but she had no idea how to. She didn't know whether it was even possible.

Spottedfire understood why Nightstar was upset. "She couldn't help it. It was that stupid rabbits fault. But I understand your pain. I wish she wouldn't have died." She looked at her leader, hoping that she could comfort her somehow.
